LED driver and BLDC motor control solutions

Elmos will present the product highlights for the Asian market at electronica China in Shanghai. These include semiconductors for efficient vehicle rear lights, RGB LED driving for the vehicle interior and BLDC motor driver. These and other semiconductors and sensors can be found at stand E4.4208. The fair will take place from 14 to 16 March 2018.

With the E522.8x component family, Elmos is presenting a powerful product family designed to be used as LED controllers for vehicle rear lights, rear fog lamp, daytime running light and third brake lamp with a worldwide leading EMC immunity. These ICs dispose of a high level of diagnostics features and provide – at the same time – a backward compatibility to existing solutions. Furthermore the E522.8x family offers new ways to solve thermal problems with a minimum of space.

The Elmos IC E521.36 enables a simple, variable, cost-efficient and very space-saving design of RGB LED modules for connection to a LIN-Bus. The device includes high performance 16-bit microcontroller with 32kbyte NVM, 128byte EEPROM, a LIN transceiver (up to LIN 2.2) with integrated BSM auto-addressing (bus shunt method). The integrated microcontroller can be programmed with IAR's widely used software development environment. Furthermore the IC has three current sources with up to 40mA each and three 16-bit PWM generators. The 48MHz PWM clock ensures full 16-bit color resolution at a 732Hz repetition rate, enabling flicker-free applications and meeting all known OEM requirements. Possible application is the ambient lighting in the vehicle interior.

The E523.06 is a BLDC motor system-in-a-chip, consisting of a gate driver for the 12V vehicle electrical system combined with a powerful 16-bit CPU core. It controls up to 3 NMOS half bridges of BLDC, DC motors or other loads. The CPU architecture and motor driver peripherals are optimized for the single-shunt FOC (Field Oriented Control) method. The IC calculates the motor position and the commutation times without additional hall sensors. The only measuring element in the external wiring is a shunt. In addition to the cost-effective design of the target application, the IC supports end-of-line programming via JTAG or high-speed LIN. In-vehicle updates can be carried out with the bootloader. Possible applications include: radiator fans, air conditioning fans and pumps (fuel, hydraulics, oil or water).
